Edwin Marcow was born on 7 November 1970 in Cape Town, South Africa, where his passion for the ocean and wildlife began at an early age. He attained the level of PADI Divemaster in October 1999 and went on to complete a shark behaviour program in South Africa.
Work assignments followed amongst others, with Andre Hartman of Marine Dynamics and Tom Campbell. It was with Andre that Edwin worked for National Geographic - operating their Seal Cam and assisting in the production of their Great White Shark documentary. Recognition and acclaim followed when Edwin was awarded Gold and Silver medals in the 2004 Classic 13th Hasselblad Austrian Super Circuit – for images taken from this life-changing assignment. Edwin was also privileged to fulfil his dream of swimming free [no cage] with a Great White Shark.
Edwin worked again with Andre Hartman and acclaimed wildlife photographer Amos Nachoum on a further assignment in Gansbaai in July 2002 - an advertising shoot for A.P Valves. This shoot working in open water, posed Amos the model and shark together in mid water and on the sea floor, and placed Edwin as one of the first in the world to photograph Great White Sharks in South African waters from the sea floor.
Recently Edwin has worked with Tom Campbell as a cameraman’s assistant for a high-definition TV documentary series.
Edwin’s work has been published and featured in Professional Photographer, UWP, X Ray Magazine, Diver Magazine, Dive Magazine, Sport Diver Magazine, Wolfwise and Zoo weekly.
Edwin is a member and supporter of the Shark Trust, Project Aware, WWF, The Anglian Wolf Society, WildAid and Cheetah Outreach - illustrating his commitment as a wildlife conservationist.
